Worker terms

Effective October 12, 2026

These terms apply when you take a job through TeamShift. For network jobs you're an independent contractor. For roster jobs, your status is whatever it is with the business that added you. A job might be a photo, a site check, an inspection, an errand or another short task that a business, or software acting for a business, asks for. "TeamShift," "we" and "us" mean Enck Equity Group LLC, doing business as TeamShift. "You" means the person doing the job.

You agree to these terms when you create a worker account or accept your first job. Read them with the acceptable use policy, the worker privacy addendum and the job text consent terms.

1. Two ways you might get a job

Network jobs. TeamShift finds you and pays you. For these jobs you are an independent contractor working with TeamShift, and these terms are the whole agreement between us.

Roster jobs. A business you already work for adds you to its own team in TeamShift and sends you jobs. TeamShift only provides the software. Your pay, tax forms and work relationship stay between you and that business. Section 6 doesn't apply to roster jobs unless TeamShift pays you on the business's behalf, in which case its pay and tax-form parts apply to that payment. If you're that business's employee, it must pay you through its payroll, not through TeamShift. Section 7, your safety and right to refuse, applies to every job.

If a business shares its roster with other businesses, the crew sharing terms explain how those jobs work.

2. You run your own business

You are not an employee, partner or agent of TeamShift. Here is what that means in practice:

  • You choose whether to work. There are no shifts, minimum hours or quotas. You can go weeks without taking a job.
  • You can decline any offer. Declining, ignoring or letting an offer expire never lowers your rating, your place in line for future offers or your access.
  • We describe the result, not the method. A job says what the customer needs (for example, four photos of the storefront and the posted hours). You decide how to get there, what route to take and what equipment to use, as long as you follow the law and the job's safety and proof rules.
  • You can work for anyone. That includes competitors of TeamShift or of the customer.
  • You use your own phone, vehicle and tools, and you pay your own expenses unless the job says a cost is reimbursed (for example, a purchase made for the customer).
  • You are paid per job, at the amount shown before you accept.

You won't get employee benefits, workers' compensation or unemployment insurance through TeamShift, except where the law requires them. You are responsible for your own taxes.

Because customers rely on the vetting tied to your account, please don't send someone else to do a job in your place.

3. Offers and accepting a job

Each offer shows, before you accept, the pay, the type of job, the general area, the expected time on site and the deadline. The exact address appears after you accept. The first person to accept gets the job.

Once you accept, please do it or cancel quickly so we can offer it to someone else. Repeated no-shows after accepting can pause your access. Turning down offers never does.

4. Where network jobs are available

California, Massachusetts and New Jersey use a stricter test for who counts as an independent contractor. Until we finish a legal review for those states, we don't offer network jobs there. If an offer ever reaches you for a job in one of those states, don't accept it, and let us know. If you've already done one, we'll still pay you. Roster jobs from a business you already work with are not affected.

We may add or remove states and job types over time. We'll update this section when we do.

5. Vetting by risk tier

What we ask for depends on the job. Each job type has a tier, and you see a job only if your account meets that tier.

TierExample jobsWhat you need
ExteriorPhotos or a drive-by check from public groundA verified phone number and identity check. No background check or insurance.
Property accessGoing inside a building with access the customer arranges, handling keys or lockboxes, interior site checks and inspectionsA background check through a consumer reporting agency, plus general liability insurance of at least $1,000,000 per occurrence that is current and on file
Driving errandsPickups, drop-offs and purchasesA valid driver's license and the auto insurance your state requires. Check that your policy covers business use. Many personal policies don't.

Background checks. We only run one with your separate written permission, after giving you the disclosure the Fair Credit Reporting Act requires. If something in a report might keep you from property-access jobs, we'll send you a copy of the report and a summary of your rights first, and give you at least five business days to respond before we decide. If we then decide against you, we'll send a final notice with the agency's contact details, a statement that the agency didn't make the decision, your right to a free copy of your report within 60 days and your right to dispute it. We follow any extra steps your state or city requires. You'll know about any fee before you agree.

Insurance. You buy and keep your own policy. When it expires, property-access jobs pause until you upload a current certificate. TeamShift's own insurance, if any, does not cover you.

6. Pay

  • Amount. The pay in the offer is what you get for the job. It is not reduced by our fees. Approved reimbursements (such as purchases at cost) are added on top.
  • Review. We review your proof within 3 business days of receiving it. If we don't approve it, we tell you why and give you a chance to fix it. If the customer disputes a job you did correctly, you keep your pay. We only take back pay when we find fraud, such as reused or faked photos.
  • Timing. Approved pay is sent within 7 days of approval through our payment processor. We aim for one business day. If instant payout is offered, it's your choice, and any fee is shown before you choose it.
  • Cancellations. If a job is canceled after you accept it, for any reason other than your own no-show, you get the late-cancellation fee shown in the offer (at least $10).
  • Redos. A redo we ask for is paid at the job's full pay, unless the first proof failed because you didn't follow the instructions.
  • Tax forms. You give your tax details to our payment processor when you set up payouts. TeamShift does not store your full tax ID or bank details. We, through the processor, issue the tax form the law requires (usually a Form 1099) when your payments reach the reporting threshold. For roster jobs paid by the business directly, the business is responsible for any tax form.

7. Safety and your right to refuse

Your safety comes first, and you can stop any job at any time.

  • You can refuse or walk away from a job if you feel unsafe, if someone objects to your presence, if access doesn't match what the job described, or if the job would mean breaking the law or this policy.
  • You never have to confront anyone, enter a space without permission, climb onto roofs or ladders, handle animals, or carry anything you think is dangerous.
  • If you leave for safety reasons, tell us in the job thread. It won't count against your rating. We pay at least the late-cancellation fee and review whether full pay is fair.
  • In an emergency, call 911 first.

8. Proof and the data we collect

Jobs are paid on proof. Depending on the job, proof can include photos, short notes, the time and location where you took the photo or uploaded it, and photo metadata (EXIF data such as capture time, GPS position and device model). We use it to check the job was done where and when it should have been, to show the customer the result, to resolve disputes, to spot fraud and to audit a sample of jobs.

We only collect location while you're using a job's capture page or sending proof. We don't track you in the background. The worker privacy addendum explains who sees your data and how long we keep it.

When you take photos, frame the shot to leave out people's faces and license plates where you can, and follow the recording and photo rules.

You keep ownership of the photos you take. You give TeamShift and the customer a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free license, which the customer may pass to its own clients, to use, copy, edit and share the proof for any lawful purpose the acceptable use policy allows.

9. Ratings, pauses and ending your account

Ratings come from on-time arrival, proof quality, audit results and disputes. Low ratings, fraud, safety problems or breaking these terms can pause or end your access. Except in cases of fraud, threats or a safety risk, we'll tell you why before a pause takes effect and give you a chance to respond. You can ask us to review any decision by emailing team@teamshift.io.

You can close your account at any time. We'll still pay you for approved jobs.

10. Liability

You are responsible for damage or injury you cause while doing a job, and for keeping the insurance your tier requires. We'll pass along every hazard the business tells us about before you accept or arrive. TeamShift isn't responsible for a customer's instructions or premises, except where we were negligent, including by not passing along a hazard we knew about. Nothing here limits rights the law doesn't let you waive.

11. General

Pennsylvania law governs these terms, except where the law of the state where you work requires otherwise. We may update these terms. If a change affects your pay or rights, we'll tell you at least 14 days before it applies to new jobs. Questions go to team@teamshift.io or (717) 740-8200.
