Human API
Crew sharing and recording consent
Effective October 12, 2026
The first part of this page explains crew sharing: how a business can let people on its TeamShift roster take jobs for other businesses. The second part sets the recording and photo rules for every human job on TeamShift, shared or not.
Part 1: Crew sharing
Who's who
- The home business is the business that added a person to its TeamShift roster.
- A shared worker is a person on that roster who chooses to see jobs from other businesses.
- The requesting business is the business that books the job.
Turning it on
Crew sharing is off by default. Two things have to happen before anyone gets a shared job:
- The home business turns it on in its settings and can limit it by job type, area or hours.
- Each person opts in for themselves. The home business can't opt anyone in, can't require anyone to take part, and can't treat someone differently for saying no.
Either one can turn it off at any time. Jobs already accepted still finish.
How shared jobs work
- A shared worker sees a shared job only if they meet that job's vetting tier.
- A shared worker takes a shared job as an independent contractor under the worker terms, the same as any network job. TeamShift pays the shared worker directly through our payment processor, and TeamShift issues any tax form for that pay.
- A shared job is not work for the home business. The home business doesn't direct it, doesn't pay for it and isn't responsible for it.
- If the home business employs the person, shared jobs happen on the person's own time. The home business confirms that letting its people take outside work doesn't break its own policies, union agreements or contracts.
- The requesting business sees the same thing it sees for any network job: a pseudonymous worker ID, the tier and the proof. It doesn't see which business the worker came from unless the worker chooses to share that.
- If TeamShift pays the home business a referral share for shared jobs, the amount is shown in its settings before it turns sharing on.
- Shared jobs follow the same state limits as network jobs. By default, shared jobs aren't offered in California, Massachusetts or New Jersey.
Data between businesses
The home business doesn't see the requesting business's job details, addresses or proof, and the requesting business doesn't see the home business's roster or records. Each sees only what it needs for its own jobs.
Part 2: Recording and photo consent
These rules apply to every job, for workers and for the businesses and agents that book them.
Audio and video
- Jobs never include secretly recording people. Don't record any conversation, in person or on the phone, unless every person in it agrees.
- Many states require every party's consent, including Pennsylvania, California, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, Washington and Connecticut. Rather than track each state, we use the strictest rule everywhere: ask everyone first, or don't record. Our call recording laws by state page has the details.
- Video jobs record places and things, with the microphone off unless everyone in range has agreed.
Photos of people
- Point the camera at the place or object the job asks for. Frame shots to leave out people's faces where you can.
- Jobs never ask for photos of a person. If someone becomes the main subject of a shot, retake it without them. Never photograph children.
- Never photograph inside a home, bathroom, changing area or other private space where people are present, and never through windows into private spaces.
- If someone asks you not to photograph them, stop and step away.
License plates
Avoid capturing readable license plates unless the job is about that vehicle and the requesting business owns it or has the owner's permission.
Blurring
Where faces or plates appear by accident, we blur them, or remove the photo, before delivery when the law requires it or the job's settings ask for it. Requesting businesses can turn on blurring for all their jobs.
No face recognition
We may detect faces in job photos only to blur them. We don't identify anyone, and we don't create or keep face templates from job photos. Requesting businesses may not use job photos to identify people.
Private property
Only photograph inside private property with permission from whoever controls it, which the requesting business arranges. Respect any limits they set.
