Human API

Acceptable use and prohibited tasks

Effective October 12, 2026

TeamShift lets a business, or an AI agent acting for a business, book a real person for short physical tasks: photos, site checks, inspections, errands and similar work. This policy covers every request, whether it comes through the API, an agent, the portal or a text message. The business that owns the account or API key is responsible for every request made with it, including requests its agents make on their own.

1. What a good request looks like

A job should have a clear, lawful result that a person can finish safely in public or with the permission of whoever controls the place. Examples:

  • Photos of a property, storefront, sign, job site or delivery from public ground
  • A site check with a checklist at a place you own, manage or have permission to send someone into
  • A condition report on equipment or a vacant unit
  • An errand: picking up, dropping off or buying ordinary goods

2. Prohibited tasks

Don't ask for any of the following. We will refuse or cancel these jobs.

Surveillance of people. No following, watching, photographing, identifying or locating a specific person. That includes checking whether someone is home, logging who comes and goes, recording someone's car or routine, confirming where someone works, or any task aimed at a partner, ex-partner, tenant, employee or debtor as a person rather than a place.

Trespass. No entering private property, or any closed or fenced area, without permission from the person who controls it. If a job needs access, you arrange it and you confirm you have the authority to grant it.

Legal process and enforcement. No serving legal papers, eviction notices or summonses unless a licensed process server partner handles the job where state law requires a license. No repossession, lockouts, debt collection visits, or posting notices on someone's door to pressure them.

Weapons, drugs and regulated items. No buying, carrying or delivering firearms, ammunition, weapon parts, explosives, fireworks or hazardous materials. No drugs of any kind, including cannabis where it is legal, prescription medicines, alcohol, tobacco or vaping products.

Money and identity tasks. No picking up or delivering cash, gift cards, cryptocurrency or payment cards. No opening accounts, passing identity or "know your customer" checks, solving verification challenges, receiving packages for someone else under a false name, or anything that helps get around fraud controls.

Impersonation. No asking a person to pose as you, as another person, or as a government official, police officer, inspector, utility or delivery worker, or any employee they are not. No signing documents, giving statements or making promises in someone else's name. Workers may say they are doing a job for a business. They won't pretend to be that business.

Licensed work. No tasks that legally require a license the worker does not hold, such as electrical or plumbing work, a licensed home inspection for a real estate sale, an appraisal or an engineering survey. Our inspection jobs produce a condition report, not a licensed inspection.

Harm, harassment and deception. No threatening, intimidating or harassing anyone. No protests or demonstrations on your behalf. No fake reviews, fake complaints or staged incidents. No tasks that involve photographing, contacting or supervising children, and nothing involving sexual content or medical care.

Recording without consent. No audio or video recording of people without the consent the law requires. See the recording and photo rules.

Anything else unlawful or unsafe, where the job is done or where the customer is based.

3. How we screen requests

  • Fixed job types. Requests have to fit one of our listed job types. We don't run open-ended "do anything" jobs.
  • Instruction screening. We check the free-text instructions on every job, automatically and sometimes by hand, for the prohibited categories above. We look especially for identity, credential, surveillance and harassment requests.
  • Known businesses only. Every live API key belongs to a business with a verified payment method or prepaid credits. New keys have lower limits until they build a history.
  • Questions first. We may ask what a job is for, ask for proof that you control a property, or require an address to be a business location before we send anyone.

Screening is not a promise that every job is lawful. You are still responsible for your requests.

4. Our right to refuse or cancel

We may refuse, pause or cancel any job, at any time, if we reasonably believe it breaks this policy, puts a person at risk, or exposes TeamShift or a worker to legal liability. Workers can also refuse any job for any reason.

  • If we cancel a job for a policy reason before a worker accepts, you get a full refund.
  • If we cancel after a worker has accepted, we may keep the late-cancellation fee, and the cost of the worker's pay if they already did the work, and we pay the worker that amount.
  • Serious or repeated violations can lead to suspended API keys and a closed account. Unused prepaid credits are handled as the requester terms describe.
  • We may keep records of a refused request and report it to law enforcement when the law requires it or when someone's safety is at risk.

5. Reporting a problem

If you see a job that shouldn't be on TeamShift, or a worker is asked to do something on this list, email team@teamshift.io or call (717) 740-8200. Workers can also reply in the job thread.
