Human API
Requester and API terms
Effective October 12, 2026
These terms cover booking people for physical jobs through TeamShift, whether you use the API, an AI agent, the portal or a text message. They add to the main terms of service. If the two conflict on a human job, these terms control for that job. A signed order controls over both.
"You" means the business that owns the account or API key. You are responsible for every request made with your keys, including requests your AI agents make without a person reviewing them. Set spend limits that match how much you trust your agents.
All jobs must follow the acceptable use policy.
1. Two kinds of jobs
- Network jobs. TeamShift finds and pays the person. These are priced per job type, and the rest of these terms apply in full.
- Own-roster jobs. You send the job to people you added to your own team. TeamShift provides the software and adds no fee for the job itself. TeamShift can pay your person for you only if that person is an independent contractor to you, and the payment fee shown on the pricing page applies. Pay employees through your own payroll. When we pay a contractor for you, we issue the Form 1099 for those payments through our payment processor. You stay responsible for your relationship with your own people, including whether they are correctly classified. The ETA guarantee in Section 3 does not apply to own-roster jobs.
California, Massachusetts and New Jersey. By default we don't run network jobs in these three states while we complete a legal review of their contractor rules. We don't accept network jobs in these states. If one is booked by mistake, we cancel it and refund you in full. Own-roster jobs are not affected.
2. Quotes
Before you book, you get a quote. It shows:
- the all-in price: worker pay, platform fee and any rush or distance charges
- costs passed through at cost (such as purchases), with the most you've approved
- the ETA window, when one is offered
- when the quote expires
The price on an accepted quote won't go up unless you change the job, add work, or approve a pass-through cost. Prices are in US dollars and don't include taxes unless the quote says so.
3. The ETA guarantee
When a quote for a network job includes an ETA window and we miss it, you get an automatic credit of 100% of the platform fee for that job.
- What counts as missing it. Proof that passes our automatic checks wasn't delivered to you by the end of the quoted window. Any later human review doesn't count against the window.
- The platform fee is the part of the price that isn't the worker's pay or a pass-through cost. Your receipt shows it as its own line.
- Automatic. You don't need to ask. The credit lands in your account within 2 business days of the missed window, and your receipt and the job's webhook show it.
- Exceptions. The guarantee doesn't apply when the delay comes from you or the site: you changed the job after it was accepted, the address or access instructions were wrong, access wasn't ready, someone at the site refused entry, or the worker left because the site was unsafe. It also doesn't apply when an official emergency or severe-weather warning covers the job's location during the window.
- Not stacked. If nobody takes the job at all, you get the full refund in Section 4 instead of the credit.
The credit is your remedy for a late job. It doesn't take away your refund rights if the job also fails verification.
4. Cancellations, refunds and redos
- You cancel before anyone accepts: no charge.
- You cancel after someone accepts: you pay the late-cancellation fee shown in the quote (at least $10). The worker gets all of it.
- Nobody takes the job before its deadline: full automatic refund.
- The proof doesn't meet the job's instructions (wrong place, missing items, unusable photos): you choose a free redo or a full refund.
- The proof meets the instructions but isn't what you hoped for: no refund. If your instructions were unclear, you get one free redo with clearer instructions.
- We cancel for a policy or safety reason: see the acceptable use policy.
Refunds go back to where the money came from. If you paid with prepaid credits, we return credits.
5. Disputes
You can dispute a job within 72 hours after its proof is delivered. Choose a reason: wrong location, instructions not followed, proof unusable, suspected fraud, damage or misconduct, or a billing error. Send the dispute through the API, the portal or team@teamshift.io.
We'll decide within 5 business days and send the result by webhook and email. We may ask a second worker to check the site. If we find the worker did the job correctly, the worker keeps their pay whatever the outcome for you. For a billing error you can also contact us within 30 days of the receipt, as the main terms allow.
Damage, injury and misconduct claims are not limited to 72 hours. Tell us as soon as you can. We'll share what we know, including the worker's insurance details where the job tier required insurance.
6. Prepaid credits
- You can buy credits in advance and spend them on jobs.
- Used credits are non-refundable, except under the refund rules in Section 4.
- Unused purchased credits expire 24 months after purchase. Before then, if you close your account, you can ask for a refund of the unused purchased balance.
- ETA guarantee credits don't expire while your account is open. If you close your account, we refund unused ETA credits to your original payment method.
- Promotional credits have no cash value, can't be transferred and expire 12 months after they are issued.
- Credits are used oldest first, with promotional credits before purchased ones.
7. Receipts
Every job gets a receipt in the portal and through the API. It shows:
- the price, split into worker pay, platform fee, pass-through costs, taxes and any credits applied
- the times the job was booked, accepted, started and completed
- the proof, with a fingerprint (hash) of each photo, and where and when it was captured when available
- a pseudonymous worker ID and the worker's tier, never the worker's full name or contact details
- the verification result and how it was decided
- any refund, redo or credit
Proof photos and precise capture location are available for 12 months. After that, the receipt keeps the photo fingerprints, the ZIP code and whether the photo was taken within the job's radius. Receipts can carry a signature, covering that lasting version, so you, an auditor or another system can confirm they haven't been changed.
8. Your responsibilities
- You confirm you have the right to send someone to each address, and permission from whoever controls the space for any access you arrange.
- You tell us about hazards you know about: dogs, construction, unstable structures, hostile occupants.
- You don't ask workers to do work outside the job or contact them to arrange work away from TeamShift for a job you booked here.
- You delete worker location data and proof photos you downloaded when you no longer need them for the job, and no later than 12 months after it, unless the law requires you to keep them.
- You use proof and worker data only for the job's purpose and follow the recording and photo rules.
- You'll cover TeamShift's reasonable costs from third-party claims caused by your instructions, your lack of authority over a site, or your breach of the acceptable use policy.
9. Liability
Workers on network jobs are independent contractors. Workers in the property-access tier carry their own liability insurance, and damage they cause is first a claim against that insurance. We'll help you make that claim.
To the extent the law allows, TeamShift's total liability for human jobs is limited to the greater of $500 or the amount you paid for the affected jobs in the 12 months before the claim. Neither party is liable for indirect or consequential damages, such as lost profits. These limits don't apply to fraud, willful misconduct, gross negligence, breach of confidentiality, infringement, personal injury or death caused by our negligence, or anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit.
10. API use
Keep your keys secret and rotate them if they leak. We may rate-limit, pause or revoke keys to protect workers or the service. We may change the API with reasonable notice. Breaking changes get at least 30 days' notice to the email on your account, except when a change is needed for safety, security or the law.
11. Changes
We may update these terms. Changes apply to jobs booked after the update. Questions go to team@teamshift.io or (717) 740-8200.
