Motion AI Employees: an honest review
Direct answer
Motion AI Employees are named AI assistants (Alfred the executive assistant, Chip in sales, Suki in marketing, Millie for projects, and others) built on top of Motion's AI calendar, task, and project manager. They're strongest for teams that already plan their work in Motion and want AI to draft agendas, notes, posts, and project plans inside that system. As a Motion review overall: the scheduling core is well liked, while public reviews raise billing, cancellation, and accuracy problems. TeamShift sells a competing product, so read our take with that in mind. We say below who Motion is the better fit for.
What Motion is
Motion started as an AI calendar that plans your day by fitting tasks around your meetings. As of October 2026, Motion's homepage describes a broader workspace with an AI Task Manager, AI Project Manager, AI Calendar Assistant, AI Meeting Notetaker, AI Docs Assistant, AI Chat, and AI Workflows, which turn standard operating procedures into automated workflows.
The pitch is shared context. Motion's AI sees your projects, tasks, deadlines, priorities, dependencies, and team capacity in one place, so it can plan and reschedule work without you dragging blocks around. It connects to Gmail, Outlook, Zoom, Google Meet, Teams, Slack, Zapier, and HubSpot, with more available through its API.
The AI Employees
Motion's startups page lists the AI Employees by name. As of October 2026:
| AI Employee | Role | What Motion says it does |
|---|---|---|
| Alfred | Executive assistant | Drafts agendas, surfaces urgent issues, prepares pre-meeting summaries, captures notes |
| Chip | Sales rep | Books intro calls, follows up with leads, updates your CRM |
| Suki | Marketing associate | Drafts launch briefs, social posts, KPI reports, tracks competitors |
| Millie | Project manager | Turns specs and roadmaps into project plans and schedules the work |
| Spec | Researcher | Tracks competitors, industry shifts, and funding rounds |
| Dot | Recruiter | Screens candidates, sends outreach, schedules interviews |
| Clide | Customer support | Handles customer communications and escalations |
| Custom | Anything you describe | You type the job and Motion builds the employee |
These employees work inside Motion. Their output lands as docs, tasks, and calendar blocks next to the rest of your plan. That's the main difference from stand-alone AI assistants. If your team already runs on Motion, the employees can see the same projects and deadlines you do.
We couldn't find a clear description of approval controls on the AI Employees pages we checked. If you plan to let Chip or Dot contact customers or candidates, ask Motion exactly what gets sent without a human check.
Motion pricing (as of October 2026)
Motion's pricing page lists two plans, Pro AI and Business AI, with separate prices for teams (per seat) and for individuals:
| Plan | Teams, monthly billing | Teams, annual billing | Individuals, monthly billing | Individuals, annual billing | AI credits included | Extra credits |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pro AI | $29/seat/month | $19/seat/month | $49/month | $29/month | 7,500 | 25 cents per 100 |
| Business AI | $49/seat/month | $29/seat/month | $69/month | $39/month | 15,000 | 19 cents per 100 |
Pro AI covers AI chat, projects and tasks, the calendar and meetings, docs and notes, the task planner, and mobile apps. Business AI adds team capacity planning, dashboards, Gantt timelines, time tracking, permissions, central billing, and priority support. Motion offers a free trial, but the pricing page doesn't state how long it lasts.
The pricing page we checked doesn't mention the AI Employees by name or a separate AI Employees plan. Ask Motion's sales team how the employees are billed and how many credits typical jobs use before you commit.
What users say
On Trustpilot, Motion has 578 reviews and a TrustScore of 3.7 out of 5 as of October 2026. The split is sharp: 51% five-star and 27% one-star, with little in between.
What people praise: the auto-scheduling calendar that plans the day for you, and the meeting notetaker that captures action items without manual work.
What people complain about:
- Billing and cancellation. This dominates the one-star reviews. Reviewers describe charges after canceling and an interface they feel makes canceling hard.
- Accuracy. Some reviewers say AI meeting summaries contain things that weren't said.
We didn't test these claims ourselves. They're patterns in public reviews, and plenty of reviewers are happy.
Strengths and weaknesses
Strengths
- A strong core product. The AI calendar is what Motion is known for, and reviewers like it.
- Shared context. The AI Employees work from the same tasks, projects, and calendar as your team.
- Cheap per seat for what you get, with a clear credit allowance and published overage rates.
- Broad roles out of the box, plus custom employees.
Weaknesses
- You need to live in Motion. The AI Employees are most useful when your projects, tasks, and docs are already there. If they aren't, adopting Motion is a project in itself.
- Unclear AI Employees pricing. The public pricing page doesn't explain how they're billed.
- Approval controls aren't clearly documented on the pages we checked.
- Billing and cancellation complaints come up often in public reviews. Note your renewal date.
- It's built around planning and knowledge work. It's less focused on back-office jobs like invoice follow-up or QuickBooks cleanup.
Motion AI Employees vs a hosted AI team
Motion's employees work best inside a project-management workspace. Your team plans in Motion, and the AI drafts and schedules around that plan.
TeamShift starts from the business instead of a planning tool. A business gets nine AI workers led by an Operations lead who sends a morning brief, routes work, and checks it got done. They work in apps you already use, like Gmail, Outlook, QuickBooks, HubSpot, and Google Calendar, so there's no new workspace to adopt. Finance follows up on invoices and reconciles QuickBooks. Support sorts the inbox and drafts replies. Sales drafts fast first replies to inbound leads and quote follow-ups. TeamShift doesn't do cold outreach. Anything that would send to a customer, move money, publish, delete, or book your calendar is drafted first and goes ahead only after you approve it. Every step is recorded. | Motion AI Employees | TeamShift | |
|---|---|---|
| Where the work happens | Inside Motion's workspace | In your existing apps |
| Best at | Planning, meetings, docs, marketing and sales drafts | Inbox, lead follow-up, invoicing, back-office work |
| Approvals | Not clearly documented on the pages we checked | Anything outgoing waits for your OK |
| Pricing | Per seat plus credits, AI Employees billing unclear on the pricing page | Free workspace, usage billed at 3x compute cost, quoted maximum, spend caps |
| Live phone calls | No | Yes, an AI voice answers, and changes wait for your OK |

Who Motion is best for
- Startups and small teams who want one tool for tasks, projects, docs, and calendar.
- People who struggle to plan their week and want the calendar to do it for them.
- Teams that already use Motion and want AI drafting inside the same plan.
Who should look elsewhere
- Owners whose problem is follow-through on customers, invoices, and the inbox rather than planning. A hosted team fits better. Our guide to AI employees for small business compares the models.
- Teams that don't want to move their projects into a new tool.
- Builders who want to design every automation step. n8n or Make suit them better.

They can draft agendas, notes, posts, and plans, and keep the calendar organized. Someone still needs to review their work, and public reviews mention inaccurate meeting summaries.
